Stained-glass for your...

Well as Elisabeth Kubler-Ross is quoted as saying "People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."

Well today we are featuring some of our favourite stained-glass pieces. Here at The Old House we have a lovely light shinning from within, our resident glass artist Dick Turnbull. He is a wonderful artisan and craftsman. Not only can he repair damaged windows but he creates fabulous pieces of work from scratch. Check out his site for more details or of course you can always come on down Tuesday through Saturday noon to five to talk to him in person and see his amazing creations that surround him.

Now we'll show you some of Dick's creations, he has a wide range of styles and techniques he uses. Creating everything from classical designs with beautiful beveled glass and a nice colour pallet such as the following examples...

To the more fantastical and imaginative such as this little lady here...

of course we commissioned our own personal piece that hangs in our counter window here.

Even if you don't have a place to hang some stained glass where it could get light through it Dick has a solution for you. He can make up these lovely lamps that look great in foyers, halls, dinning and living rooms. Check out this example for an idea of how it could look.

Those are just a few examples of Dicks work we have a ton more around the store. Besides Dick's wonderful creations we also have some old stained-glass pieces some from in churches some houses. They are all unique and gorgeous though. They can replace a window or be hung in a door or window or anywhere light comes through for a great classic look. This is just one of the many (but probably the biggest) pieces we have that has been taken from inside a church.

and a few more...

Finally we'll end it with a couple staff favourites.

Thanks for reading guys and I hope you come down and check out our stained-glass if you've never really seen it before or if you've never been into the store at all.
