The current Old House building was the old Peter's Auction located across Young Street from the CBC building in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There were a few small holes in the ceiling that needed attention. The old roof was removed and new one built. The old brick facade was restored by sand blasting. The interior had to be dried, emptied and gutted. The sandblasting crew returned to do the interior. All walls, both brick and wood as well as the ceilings and beams were blasted. The floors were levelled and sealed, new windows installed. Foam insulation was added and some walls were framed. The woodwork and floors were sealed and the installation of shelving began. Old doors, sandblasted, were fitted to form wall panels and wainscotting.
The finished product is awash with ideas on how to use antique building materials in new and creative ways. However, to see them best you will have to come and visit us at The Old House Revival Company, 324 Young Street.
